May Cleveland, Ohio, USA 44th Aerospace Mechanism Symposium, sponsored and organized by the Mechanisms Education Association In cooperation with NASA Glenn Research Center and Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company The AMS is concerned with the problems of design, fabrication, test, and operational use of aerospace mechanisms. Emphasis is on hardware developments. The symposium . A drag-reducing aerospike is a device (see Nose cone design) used to reduce the forebody pressure aerodynamic drag of blunt bodies at supersonic aerospike creates a detached shock ahead of the body. Between the shock and the forebody a zone of recirculating flow occurs which acts like a more streamlined forebody profile, reducing the drag. A physics-based computational method is presented for the trajectory prediction of fully appended self-propelled underwater vehicles, including a rotating propeller. The approach is to interactively couple the numerical solution of the three-dimensional unsteady incompressible turbulent Navier-Stokes equations with a six-degree-of-freedom (6-DOF) computational method. Diagrams of the mechanism are much easier to come by. Some of the better ones can be found at page (page in PDF) of Mission Operation Report: Apollo 8 (AS) Mission, page in the PDF of the 9th Aerospace Mechanisms Symposium, and page 70 in the PDF of Symposium on Transient Loads and Response of Space Vehicles.
